what is it characterised by?
A
obstruction of the pilosebaceous follicles with keratin plugs which results in comedones, inflammation and pustules.

mild acne
A
open and closed comedones with or without sparse inflammatory lesions

moderate acne
A
widespread non-inflammatory lesions and numerous papules and pustules

severe acne
A
extensive inflammatory lesions, which may include nodules, pitting, and scarring

management
A
- single topical therapy
- oral abx - tetracyclines e.g. lymecycline, oxytetracycline, doxycycline - avoid in pregnancy and use erythromycin
3.COCP
- oral isotretinoin - contraindicated in pregnancy
