Management Pathway
Single Topical Therapy (Retinoid/Benzoyl)
Combination Topical therapy (Topical Tetracycline, Benzoyl, Retinoid)
Oral Tetracycline for 3 Months or COCP in women OR oral ertythromycin in women
+ TOPICAL RETINOID OR BENZOYL TO PREVENT AB RESISTANCE
Oral Isotrenitoin
Contraindication to Oral Tetracycline
Pregnant/Breastfeeding Women
Children Under 12
Contraindication to Retinoid Therapy both topical and oral
Pregnancy
Suitable Alternative for AB’s in women
COCP
Must be coprescribed with a topical agent
Acne Classification
Mild:
Open/Closed Comedones w or w/o inflammatory lesions
Moderate:
Widespread non-inflammatory lesions and lots of papules/pustules
Severe:
Extensive inflammatory lesions with nodules pitting and scarring
Complication of long term AB use and Managemenr
Gram-ve folliculitis
Oral Trimethoprim
