It affects the sexes equally (12-14 y)

1-bacterial colonization
2-poral occlusion keratinization
3-increased sebum production {ocp,puberty}
4-dermal inflammation
Drug-induced acne
Dominated by papulopustules rather than
comedones
g corticosteroids, lithium,
anticonvulsants, barbiturates. androgenic
and anabolic steroids, gonadotrophins, oral
contraceptive
Late onset qcne features
Mainly in womenOften limited to the chin
Nodular and cystic lesions predominate
Bacterial infection of the hair follicle, appears in
patients in case of long time treatment with
doxycycline because it kills skin normal flora, high
risk of other gram negative to growth
Pyogenic folliculitis
Any acne (even infantile)associated with
virilization (such as muscle bulk, body hair, and deep
voice) needs investigation to exclude an androgen- secreting tumor of the: adrenals, ovaries or testes &
to rule out congenital adrenal hyperplasia caused
by 21-hydroxylase deficiency.
Concomitant eczema is a contraindication to their use
Tretinoin (Retin A), Adapalene (Differin), Tazarotene
(Tazorac
