What is the pathophys of acne?
A
Increased sebaceous gland sensitivity to androgens leads to basal keratinocyte proliferation and increased sebum production.
Inflammation and colonisation by P acnes bacteria leads to formation of papules, pustules, and comedones.

How is acne treated?
A
Mild: topical steroids and retinoids e.g. benzoyl peroxide.
Moderate: topical or oral antibiotics e.g. erythromycin, clindamycin.
Severe: oral isotretinoin

Main complication of isotretinoin?
A
Teratogenic, so girls should be on dual contraceptive e.g. pill and condom.
