- Drug OD
- Airway Obstruction
- Anesthesia
- ↑ICP
Respiratory Acidosis–CCPPDAA↑
Respiratory Acidosis
(S/S)
Respiratory Acidosis (S/S):
- Dizziness (3D’s)
- Rapid, shallow respirations
- Hypoventilation
- Muscle Weakness
- Warm, Flushed skin
- H/A
- ↑K+
- ↓BP
Respiratory Acidosis (S/S)– DRHMWH/A↑↓
Respiratory Acidosis
(Interventions)
Respiratory Acidosis (Interventions):
- Semi-Fowler’s [30]
- Turn, cough, deep breath
- Hydration
- Suction
- Respiratory distress monitoring
- Electrolyte monitoring (esp. K+)
- Respiratory Tx as Rx
- Antibiotics and other Meds as Rx
- O2 as Rx
- ↑CO2 >50 prep for:
- Mechanical Ventilation
- Endotracheal Intubation
Respiratory Acidosis
(Compenstaion)
Respiratory Acidosis (Compenstaion):
Kindneys (renal):
- Retain HCO3
- Excrete H+
Respiratory ALKalosis
(S/S)
Respiratory ALKalosis (S/S):
- Hyperventilation
- Paresthesias
- Tetany (↓ Ca+)
- Lethargy
- Confusion
- N/V
- ↑HR
Respiratory ALKalosis
(Causes)
_Respiratory ALKalosis (Causes): _
HHHEEAATF
- Hyperventilation
- Hysteria
- Hypoxia
- Early Asthma
- Excessive ventilation c/Mechanical Ventilation
- Anemia
- ASA toxicity
- Thyrotoxicosis
- Fever
Respiratory ALKalosis
(Interventions)
Respiratory ALKalosis (Interventions):
- Respiratory Distress monitoring
- Emotional support & Reassurance
- Electrolytes (K+ & Ca+)
- Appropriate Breathing Patterns
- Rebreathing Masks as Rx
- CO2 breaths as Rx (Paper Bag)
- Ca+ gluconate prep for Tetany (↓Ca+) as Rx
- Voluntary holding breath if appropriate
- Ventilator PTs (caution NOT forced breaths too deeply or rapidly)
Metabolic Acidosis (Causes)
Metabolic Acidoses (Causes):
- Severe Diarrhea
- Shock
- DM or DKA
- Renal (RF, renal insufficiency, renal disease or acute injury)
- A
- Malnurtition (↑↑ fat-diet – ↑ ketones)
(↓ carbs -- ↑lactic acid)
