Scrum Team
Who does the Scrum Team consists of?
1 Scrum Master
1 Product Owner
10 (or less ) Developers
Scrum Team
Are there Sub-teams in a Scrum Team?
=> No
no sub-teams or hierarchies
It is a cohesive unit of professionals focused on one objective at a time, the Product Goal.
Scrum Team
Scrum Teams are …
=> 2 Characteristics
self-managing
they internally decide who does what, when, and how
AND
crossfunctional
(the members have all the skills necessary to create value each Sprint, without depending on others not part of the team)
Scrum Team
If Scrum Teams become too large, they should consider reorganizing into multiple cohesive (zusammenhängende) Scrum Teams each focused on the same product.
What do they share?
(3 Things they share)
Therefore, they should share the same:
* Product Goal
* Product Backlog
* Product Owner
Each sub-team still has 1 Scrum Master and Developers.
What is the Scrum Team responsible and accountable for?
Responsibility: task-focused
(relates to person’s role in completing a task)
Accountability: results-focused
(relates to how a person reacts or owns the results of their task)
responsible for:
=> all product-related activities
accountable for:
=> creating a valuable, useful Increment every Sprint.
Developers
What is the purpose of the Developers?
=> Transforming the Product Backlog items into a usable Increment
Developers
What skills do the Developers have?
- often are broad (breit gefächert)
- will vary with the domain of work (Arbeitsbereich)
Product Owner
What ist the Product Owner (PO) accountable for?
(2 Accountabilities)
Accountability: results-focused
(relates to how a person reacts or owns the results of their task)
=> maximizing the value of the product resulting from the work of the Scrum Team
=> managing the Product Backlog
Product Owner
Can anyonone else other than the Product Owner do work, related to Product Backlog management?
=> Yes
he/she may delegate the responsibility to others
BUT
=> the Product Owner remains accountable
Product Owner
Can anyone else, other than the PO, change the Product Backlog?
If anyone wants to change the Product Backlog, they need to convince the Product Owner
Product Ownder
Does the Product Owner need to act like a filter, rejecting or accepting requests from the business stakeholders?
=> No, definitely not!
The PO just needs to make sure, that the requests are ordered correctly (most important ones come first)
IMPORTANT:
* The PO is not the bridge between development & business
* They can talk to each other if needed, but the business people cannot interrupt or try to command the Developers
Developers
Should the Developers be Generalists or Specialists?
=> a mix of both
Generalists:
They know a little about a lot of stuff
Specialist:
give each other feedback, assist others or complete tasks started by others, but if each person only works on part of the problem you won’t have a team, just a group of people
Scrum Master
What are the tasks of a Scrum Master?
3 things
1| Accountable for establishing (festlegen, herstellen) Scrum / promotes and supports Scrum process
Helps everyone to understand Scrum theory, practices, rules and values
2| Causes the removal of impediments (Hindernisse)
“My Laptop broke”
3| Leads and facilitates Scrum adoption
Ensures, that Scrum is understood by the entire organization
At the end of the day, who transforms the ideas contained in the Product Backlog into value?
=> The Developers
=> they are the ones who create the Increments
=> but the entire Scrum Team is accountable (verantwortlich) for creating a valuable, useful Increment every Sprint
