What is the Importance of Room Availability Forecasting
It helps reservation or revenue manager to project future volume of business and the revenue that would be generated by the hotel.
The volume of reservations will help the Front Office Manager(FOM) and the management of the hotel to plan the following:
-Staff requirement in each department for the smooth functioning of the Hotel.
-Minimum inventory of items required by each department to carry out their tasks efficiently.
-Allocation of resources to serve the guests in the best possible way.
-Maintenance and replacement requirements of the furniture,fixtures
-Special arrangement to be made for the arrival of groups,Commercially Important Person(CIP) and VIPs.
The reservation forecast will provide the necessary data to the reservation managers practise yield management.
It helps in selective overbooking based on the reservation forecast.
It reveals the sold out dates.
Define understay
Understay-Guest who leave earlier than expected time of departure.
Define overstay
Overstay-Guest who extends their stay and do not leave at scheduled time of departure.
Stayover
Stayover-The guest is not expected to check out today and will continue to stay at least one more night.
Define overbooking
Overbooking-It is a process of accepting more booking than the number of rooms available in the hotel.
Expected arrival
Expected Arrival-Guest booked to arrive today.
Expected departure
Expected Departure –Guest booked to depart today.
No- show
No-Show-Guest with confirmed /Guaranteed booking does not arrive or cancel their booking on time.
Early arrivals
Early Arrivals-Guest who arrives before scheduled time of arrival.
Walk in
Walk-in –Guest who comes to hotel without prior reservation.
House Count-
House Count-Total number of guest residing in a Hotel
Room count
Room Count –Total number of occupied room in a hotel.
