accessory nerve Flashcards
what are the two roots the make up the accessory nerve
the cranial and spinal
what type of information is carried by the accessory nerve
exclusively motor information
lower motor neurons of the accessory nerve supply what
the sternocliedomastoid, trapezius, and muscles of the soft palate, pharynx, and larynx
the cranial root of the accessory nerve has cell bodies from where
nucleus ambiguus
where is the spinal nucleus of the accessory nerve found
anterior horn of the gray matter
the spinal nucleus of the accessory nerve expands between what levels
the foramen magnum inferiorly to the C5 or C6 cord level
where does the cranial root emerge from
lateral aspect of the medulla oblongata
where does the cranial root exist the skull
the jugular foramen
after the cranial root separates from the spinal root it will join the vagus nerve where
the inferior ganglion
once the cranial branch meet up with the vagus nerve where does it go
to the pharyngeal plexus as well as the external and recurrent laryngeal nerves
the cranial branch will be the motor supply for which muscles
all laryngeal muscles except the cricothyroid
the spinal branch emerges from where
the lateral aspect of the cervical cord, between the anterior and posterior rootlets
once these rootlets combine and ascend between the denticulate ligaments and the posterior rootlets the enter the skull where
the foramen magnum
after the spinal branch exists the skull through the jugular foramen it will send motor fiber to what muscles
sternocleidomastoid
before the spinal branch can travel deep to the trapezius it must first pass where
the posterior triangle
