To provide mounting and/or drive for the components or accessories required for engine operation

A
Via a radial drive shaft from internal bevel gears from a gas generator shaft

A
Via a radial driveshaft from internal bevel gears from the HP spool

Why are all accessory gearboxes designed with a hunting tooth?
A
To ensure each gear tooth does not engage between the same set of opposing teeth on each revolution
Wear is spread evenly across all teeth
