Acceleration due to Gravity Flashcards
What is free fall?
Free fall is an object undergoing acceleration of “g” (9.81m/s^2) only
When discussing a constant free fall which value of SUVAT changes?
“A” changes to “g” the value of gravity 9.81m/s^2
How would you create an experiment to approximate the true value of gravity acting on an object?
Measure the height from the bottom of your ball connected to an electromagnet.
Flick the switch and start the timer simultaneously to release the ball.
The ball falls and hits the trapdoor breaking the circuit stopping the timer.
Record the time and repeat the experiment 3 times to get an average.
Calculate g using the equation
g = 2h/t^2.
Repeat from several height and create an average value, g should be close to 9.81
