- Lack of trained/experienced staff
- Staff overworked = 50 to 100 cases each, senior probation officers had up to 900
- Model was deemed irredeemably flawed

How are CRCs funded?

Limitations of prisons
- 58% of prisons are overcrowded = drug epidemic
- Lack of access to rehab and education
- Riots (Birmingham prison)

- Budget cuts = not enough staff in prisons to supervise = 69 suicides in 2018

Limitations of the judiciary
- Less cases go to court = CPS/gov don’t have money to pay for the judges = people get let off with crime
- 95% of cases goes to the magistrates (less cases go to court because money is an issue
- Costs £110,000 to £257,000 for a judge
How are Charities and Pressure Groups funded?
- Non profit organiastions
- Not funded by the government, rely on fundraising and donations
Limitations of Charities and Pressure Groups
- Rely on donations and fundraising, without these cannot provide a service
- Doesnt reach all areas
- Mostly support young offenders and less serious crime (volunteers not legally trained)
How is the CPS funded?
- Funded by the government through general taxation –> £500million per year
- Given money by recovering assests
Limitations of the CPS
- Budget cut by 25% = need to drop more cases
- Staff cut by 1/3
- Send more cases to magistrates than Crown Court = more people get away with crime
How are the Police funded?
- Funded by Home Office, council tax, Department for Cimmunties and Local Government (DCLG)
- Funded by some policing commerical events e.g. football matches
Limitations of the Police
- Budget cut by 19% between 2010-2018
- Fall in number of officers (44,000 lost)
- 999 call response doubled = less people to answer the phone
- Fewer officers to patrol
- Drop invesitgations that are too complex = dont have time or resources to investigate
