What are the roles of the police, CPS and Courts

A

Police - secure crime scene and protect the public

CPS - review evidence, decision on if to prosecute, apply the full code test and present the case in court

Courts - HM courts are responsible for the administration of the courts in UK
They decide on if to sentence and individual based on evidence provided

What is the relationship between the courts and probation (9 marks)

A

From Probation to Court
- if an offender doesn’t comply they can be sent back to court for resentencing

From Court to Probation
- communicates a potential release date (court) to achieve rehabilitation (probation)

From Probation to Court
- the NPS will negotiate with the courts whether it is ok to release a prisoner
