Outline Government Processes
- House of Lords - making and shaping laws and challenging the work of the government
- House of Commons - publicly elected chamber of parliament, debate political issues and propose new laws
How are laws created:
A proposal is made in the form of a bill
They Consult the bill, asking ppl what they think
1) GREEN PAPER - a discussion which can lead to a change in proposal
2) WHITE PAPER - a formal proposal for reform is produced to present to parliament
3) FIRST READING - main aims are read out, a formal vote is taken
4) SECONE READING - Main debate takes place
5) COMMITTEE STAGE - a group representatives present any issues and suggest amendments
6) REPORT STAGE - Committee report for a vote on amendments made
7) THIRD READING - Final Vote
8) ROYAL ASSENT - Monarch signs the bill
Outline Judicial Processes for law making
Judicial Precedent - when a case is presented they must make a judgement, and this forms the law, An example is Donoghue v Stephenson
