All you have to prove is that the act took place
Miscarriage of justice
When an individual is tried, convicted and punished for a crime they did not commit
Aquittal
A judgement or verdict that a person is not guilty of the crime which they’ve been charged
Social definition of crime
Crime is a label from social interaction or a wrong against the community
Legal definition of crime
An act regarded as so disruptive that the state must intervene by creating a law on behalf of society to forbid them
What is deviance
Any behaviour that differs from the normal. Acts that are considered unusual uncommon or out of the ordinary
what are formal sanctions
Sanctions that are given in accordance with the law
informal sanctions
used for acts that are deviant but not necessarily criminal
what are the implications of having a criminal record
-exclusion from certain jobs
-travel ban
-restriction on adoption and jury service
