Q

What is the Transformer Equation?

A
Ns/Np = Vs/Vp
Ns = Number of turns on secondary coil
Np = Number of turns on primary coil
Vs = pd in secondary coil
Vp = pd in primary coli

Q

What equation is the effieciency of a ‘transformer?

A
effieciency = IsVs/IpVp
Is = Current in secondary coil
Vs = pd in secondary coil
Ip = current in primary coil
Vp = pd in primary coil

Q

How does an AC transformer work in terms of Flux linkage?

A

An alternating current in the primary coil produces an alternating flux.
The alternaing flux passes through the soft iron core to the secondary coil.
An EMF is induced in the secondary coil due to the changing flux.

Q

Methods to reduce energy loss in the Transformer?

A

Use a soft iron core to reduce hysterisis.
Use a alaminated iron core to reduce eddy currents
Use wires with a low resistivity or high cross-sectional area to reduce heat loss from resistance.
Use a high quality iron core to reduce impurities and air gaps in the iron.
