Responsible for prosecuting criminal cases investigated by the police and other investigative authorities in England and Wales.
What is the role of the courts in the Criminal Justice System.
Magistrates Court- deal with summary and triable-either way offences.
Crown Court- deals with indictable, such as murder, rape and robbery.
What is the role of the HM Prison Service in the Criminal Justice System?
To supervise offenders in custody and to help them lead law-abiding lives, both while they are in prison and after they are released.
What is the role of the Propbation Service in the Criminal Justice System?
Supervises offenders released into the community, whilst protecting the public.
What is the role of voluntary orgonisations in the Criminal Justice System?
They work to challenge and change policy and services in the justice system.
What is the role of government departments in the Criminal Justice system?
The Ministry of Justice aims to deliver a world class justice system that works for everyone in society.
How do the Police and the Courts work together?
-Police give evidence as prosecution witnesses.
-Police provide protection for vulnerable witnesses.
-Police hold defednants in prison cells and transport then to and from court.
How do the Police and the CPS work together?
-The police charge offenders in line with CPS instructions.
-The CPS advise the police on possible lines of enquiry and evidence collection to build a case.
How do the Police and the HM Prison Service work together?
-Police will arrest prisoners who have been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of their licence.
-The prison service facilitate interviews with prisoners involved in ongoing police investigations.
How do the CPS and the Courts work together?
-The CPS prepare and present the prosecution case against offenders.
-Prepare appeals against unduly lenient sentences.

-Pending their transfer/return to prison.

-Supervise offenders who are released on licence.

-Reffering victims and witnesses of crime to victim support orgonisations etc.
