A

how do Prisons and Probation work together?

- if prisoner has served between 2 days and 2 years, they must serve a minimum of 12 months probation.
- probation officers go into prison and assess the risk of offenders before they can leave.
- probation officers monitor ex-prisoners to make sure they are not re-offending etc.
- may be rearrested and sent back to prison if probation rules are broken.
- prison work with the parole board to determine whether someone is safe enough for release.
