abubulaboratory Flashcards
This part moves the stage up and down to help you get the specimen into view
-Coarse Adjustment Knob
This part of the microscope is found on the nosepiece and range from low to high power
-Objective Lenses
The bottom part of the microscope
-Base
This part of the microscope projects light upwards to allow you to see the specimen
-Illuminator
This part holds the objective lenses and is able to rotate to change magnification
-Nosepiece
When preparing a wet mount specimen for viewing, the specimen should be covered with
-A coverslip
Who and/ or what is protected by lab safety protocols?
- Students doing lab activities
- Lab instructors & technical assistants
- Anyone who walks into the lab
- The physical lab space & the equipment housed within the lab
Which of the ff are potential hazards which you might encounter in the laboratory?
- Infectious microorganisms
- Open Flames
- Hot Surfaces
- Corrosive Chemicals
- Sharp tools or broken glass
Which of the three factors affecting image quality is altered by the light source
-Contrast
If specimen was being viewed using 20x objective lens & 10x ocular lens, what would be the total magnification
-200x
When testing tonicity of red blood cells, if the solution became transparent after adding blood cells, you could assume
-The solution was hypotonic & the cells had burst
What is important to remember when using oil immersion?
-Immersion oil can only be used with 100x objective, and without it, the image is blurry.
How do the coarse and fine focus knobs work on a brightfield microscope.
-The focus knobs move the stage up and down, allowing the user to move the slide into focus
Why should the fine focus knob typically be used with the 10x and 40x objective lenses?
-The slide should be close to in focus after focusing at the 4x objective. Focusing with the coarse focus knob would result in too large a change in focus.
What is the total magnification of a specimen using the 40x objective?
-The total magnification would be 400x
