Henry II
He became King on the 19th December 1154. He appointed his best friend Thomas Beckett as chancellor of England in. 1161, Henry made Thomas Beckett the Archbishop of Canterbury. He did this because he though he could get what he wanted because they were friends but Beckett took his job seriously. Four years later Beckett left England and when he returned he excommunicated Henry. On December 29th 1170, 4 knights went to kill Beckett because they heard Henry say ‘When will somebody rid me of this turbulent priest’ but he didn’t mean it.
William the Conqueror
He was French and was born in Normandy. In July 1066 he prepares to invade England. 14th October 1066, he fights against Harold Godwinson and wins the battle of Hastings and becomes the King of England. He introduced Motte and bailey castles, feudal system and the Doomsday Book. He also controlled England with those 3 things as well as terror.
King John
May 27th 1199, Henry became King after the death of his brother. He upset the Pope over the Archbishop of Canterbury, he upset the people because the pope excommunicated him which meant they couldn’t get married or bury people. He upset the french because he assassinated one of them, the Irish as he made jokes about them and the barons because of unfair taxes. June 15th 1215, the barons forced King John to sign the Magna Carta. It was a list of rights that the barons thought they should have I.e. The king couldn’t interfere with the church and he couldn’t make unfair taxes.
Richard II
1387, he took over England. He was king during the black death and peasants revolt. During the peasants revolt they rebelled against Richard and made him give them what they wanted. He agreed to this but then went back on his word. He then killed Wat Tyler and John Ball, the leaders. He died 1399
