Period of amenorrhoea
Fever
Abdominal pain
Vomiting, Diarrhoea
Purulent discharge & bleeding PV
Complications of septic abortion
Septicemia & septic shock
ARDS
ARF
DIC
Generalised peritonitis
Septic abortion - Clinical signs
Vitals - Tachycardia, hypotension, pyrexia
Pallor
P/A - abdominal tenderness, distension, guarding or rigidity
P/V - foul smelling purulent discharge, soft cervix with open internal os, tender fornices
In c/o pelvic abscess - spiky fever, mucous diarrhoea, soft boggy mass
Evidence of uterine perforation & bowel injury
Sequelae of Septic abortion
Chronic pelvic pain
Tubal block & infertility
Indications for exploratory laparotomy in septic abortion
Uterine perforation with suspected bowel injury
No response to evacuation & medical therapy
Generalised peritonitis with intraabdominal abscesses
Septic abortion
Infection of the products of conception & uterus
Can occur as effect or cause of abortion
