Abnormal Posture Flashcards
describe handedness posture @ shoulder, spine, pelvis, hip and foot from the perspective of the dominant side.
shoulder: lower
spine: deviates away
pelvis: deviates towards
hip: higher
foot: less pronated
What structures are elongated/ shortened in kyphotic-lordotic posture?
elongated: cervical flex, middle trap and rhomboids (ABD) , thoracic ES, External oblique (ant pelvic tilt)
shortened: neck extensors, hip flexors, lumbar ext—exc. low back due to ext in sitting
What structures are elongated/ shortened in flat back posture?
- resting on Y ligament*
elongated: hip flexors, occasionally knee flexors
shortened: hamstrings, abdominals
What structures are elongated/ shortened in sway back posture?
elongated: hip flexors, EO, thoracic ES, cervical flexors
shortened: hamstrings, upper abdominals
describe flexed knee posture. what structures are heavily impacted?
almost like a “nose over toes” mid-sit -to-stand posture. magnitude of MA is increased so it requires a.lot of counteractive extension by the quads. Also requires tibfemoral and patelllofemoral joint compression (very tiring position)
describe gene recurvatum posture. what structures are heavily impacted?re?
extreme hyperextension, Increased tension stress on posterior capsule and thus lengthening those ligments»unstable join, compression on anterior knee joint surface
describe forward head posture. what structures are heavily impacted?
“text neck” causes abnormal compression on facet joints and postural portions of IV discs, can also impact TMJ
what are the main characteristics of pes planus? What are the 2 types?
increased calcaneal eversion, reduced or absent medial arch
can be rigid or flexible
what are the main characteristics of pes cavus?
more stable but supinated foot. foot to rigid for good shock absorption and accommodation.
what are the 2 types of scoliosis curves?
functional: can be reversed if cause is corrected-ex leg length discrepancy or spasms
structural: require changes in bone and soft tissue
