What is menorrhagia?
Abnormally heavy or long periods
What can menorrhagia lead to?
Anemia
What is oligomenorrhea?
Abnormally short or light periods
What is associated with oligomenorrhea?
Polycyclic ovary syndrome, emotional/physical stress, chronic illness, rumors secreting estrogen, poor nutrition, eating disorder, heavy exercise
What is polymenorrhea?
Cycles occur at intervals less than 21 days
What is dysmenorrhea?
Painful periods
What is dysmenorrhea associated with?
Endometriosis
What is amenorrhea?
Absence of menstration
What is primary amenorrhea?
Delayed beyond 18 years old
What is secondary amenorrhea?
Cessation in women who previously menstruated
What causes amenorrhea?
Congenital vaginal or cervical stenosis, infection, trauma, ovarian dysfunction, pituitary disease, other endocrine disturbances
