What fires is PKP used for
Class B fires
Two 18lb PKP bottles
Pump room/Filter room
Lasts 30 seconds with a range of 18 feet
Two 15lb CO2 bottles
Pump room/ filter room
Lasts 45 seconds with a range of 5 feet. Used primarily on class C fires
Halon 1301
Pump room: Colorless, Odorless, Non-conductive and leaves no residue
AFF sprinkled System primary
Pump room: extinguish burning liquid spills, class B fires
Dial Damage control central
Report class of fire or flooding if evacuating space, take muster of all personnel evacuated from space and report to on scene leader of any casualties.
Rotary Vane Pump Purpose
Positive displacement, used for pumping all types of fluids on naval ships
Transfer Pump
To transfer JP-5 internally
From stowage tank to stowage tank
From stowage tank to service tank via purifier
Defueling Pump
One Pump installed per refueling station
Auxilary Pump
To transfer JP-5 from service tanks to small boats etc
Stripping Pump
Two pumps installed in both the forward and aft systems
One stripping pump in mid ship (cargo)
Cylinger
Houses the rotor assembly and pressure control valve
Acts as a working area for the rotor and shaft assembly
Head assemblies
Acts as end covers for the cylinder bore enclosure
Houses the ball bearings and mechanical seal assemblies
Ball bearings - free rotation
Mechanical seal- prevents leakage
An O-ring acts as a seal between the heads and the cylinder
Rotor and shaft assembly
Shaft is connected to the drive motor through a flexible coupling and gear reducer
Pressure control valve assembly
62.5 PSI
Prevents buildup and excessive pressure in the pump
