T7 – T11 spinal
nerves (intercostal) and
subcostal nerves
External Oblique Action
compress and support
abdominal viscera, flex trunk,
rotate trunk
External Oblique Arterial Supply
lower posterior
intercostal, deep circumflex
iliac, and superior and inferior
epigastric arteries
Internal Oblique Origin
thoracolumbar fascia, anterior 2/3
iliac crest, later 1/3 of inguinal ligament
Internal Oblique Insertion
inferior border of 10th -12th ribs,
linea alba (via aponeurosis), and pectineal line
via conjoint tendon
Internal Oblique Innervation
T6– T11 spinal nerves
(intercostal) and subcostal nerves
