Abdominal Wall Flashcards
Origin of external oblique
external surfaces of ribs 5 - 12
insertion of external oblique
anterior part of the iliac crest, abdominal aponeurosis to linea alba
action of external obliques
unilaterally - laterally flex the vertebral column to the same side, rotate vertebral column to the opposite side
bilaterally - flex the vertebral column, compress the abdominal contents
innervation of external obliques
T5 - T12
origin of internal oblique
lateral inguinal ligament, iliac crest and thoracolumbar fascia
insertion of internal oblique
internal surface of lower 3 ribs, abdominal aponeurosis to linea alba
action of internal oblique
unilaterally - laterally flex vertebral column to the same side, rotate vertebral column to the same shit
bilaterally - flex the vertebral column, compress the abdominal contents
innervation of internal oblique
T7 - L1
origin of transverse abdominus
lateral inguinal ligament, iliac crest, thoracolumbar fascia and internal surface of lower 6 ribs
insertion of transverse abdominus
abdominal aponeurosis to linea alba
action of transverse abdominus
compress abdominal contents
innervation transverse abdominus
T7 - L1
origin rectus abdominis
pubic crest, pubic symphysis
insertion of rectus abdominis
cartilage of 5th, 6th and 7th ribs and xiphoid process
action rectus abdominis
flex the vertebral column
tilt pelvis posteriorly
innervation of rectus abdominis
T5 - T12
origin of psoas major
bodies and TP of lumbar vertebrae
insertion of psoas major
lesser trochanter
action of psoas major
with the origin fixed - flex the hip, may laterally rotate the hip
with insertion fixed - flex the trunk toward the thigh, tilt pelvis anteriorly
unilterally - assist to laterally flex the lumbar spine
innervation of psoas major
L1 - L4
origin of iliacus
iliac fossa
insertion of iliacus
lesser trochanter
action of iliacus
with the origin fixed - flex the hip, may laterally rotate the hip
with the insertion fixed - flex the trunk toward the thigh, tilt pelvis anteriorly
innervation of iliacus
femoral nerve L1 - L4
origin of quadratus lumborum
posterior iliac crest
insertion of quadratus lumborum
last rib and TP of 1st through 4th lumbar vertebrae
action of quadratus lumborum
unilaterally - laterally tilt the pelvis, laterally flex the vertebral column to the same side, assist to extend the vertebral column
bilaterally - fix the last rib during forced inhalation and exhalation
innervation of quadratus lumborum
T12 - L3
