Abdominal Wall Flashcards
Where is the transtubercular plane?
passes through the iliac tubercles and the body of the L5 vertebra
Where is the subcostal plane?
passes through the inferior border of the 10th costal cartilage on each side
Where are the midclavicular planes?
passes from the midpoints of the clavicles to the midinguinal points
What are midinguinal points?
the midpoints of lines joining the ASIS and the superior edge of the pubic symphasis
Where is the transumbilical plane?
passes through the umbilicus and IV disc between the L3 and L4 vertebrae
What are the boundaries of the anterolateral abdominal wall?
superiorly, cartilages of 7th-10th ribs and xiphoid process
inferiorly, inguinal ligament and pelvic bones
What is the superficial muscle of the abdomen?
external oblique
What is the intermediate muscle of the abdomen?
internal oblique
What muscle is the deep layer of the abdomen?
transversus abdominus
What forms the linea alba?
niterweaving aponeuroses
Where is the linea alba?
extends from the xiphoid process to the pubic symphasis
Where are tendinous intersections typically found?
level of xiphoid process, the umbilicus, and a level halfway between these points
Where is the median umbilical fold?
extends from the apex of the urinary bladder to the umblicus; covers the median umbilical ligament
What is the median umbilical ligament?
the remnant of the urachus that joined the apex of the fetal bladder to the umbilicus
Where are the medial umbilical folds?
lateral to the median umbilical fold; covers the medial umbilical ligaments
