Q

What causes limb-body-wall complex?

A

Amnion & chorion do not separate, amnion cannot cover umbilical cord/insertion because it is fused with chorion (outer sac)

16
Q

What is biliary atresia?

A

Bile ducts do not open after birth

17
Q

What can cause biliary atresia?

A

Infection during fetal period

18
Q

Where are intestinal obstructions MC?

A

Jejunum and small bowel

19
Q

What can cause intestinal obstruction to happen?

A

Stenosis, atresia, malrotation, cystic fibrosis, volvulus

20
Q

What is a common result of intestinal obstruction?

A

Poly or oligo, obstruction more distal in GI tract = less severe fluid abnormalities

21
Q

What is Hirschsprung’s disease?

A

AKA megacolon, large intestine has too much nerve supply

22
Q

What is meconium peritonitis?

A

Peritonitis cause by in utero bowel perforation, bacteria gets into peritoneal cavity

23
Q

What causes hyperechoic bowel?

A

Decreased water content or alteration of meconium (can indicate bowel abnormality after birth)

24
Q

What is the most common congenital defect of GI tract?

A

Meckel’s diverticulum

25
Q

What causes Meckel’s diverticulum?

A

Remnant of primary YS that does not degenerate, causes outpouching of small intestine

26
Q

What causes pseudoascites?

A

Obstruction, perforation, urinary tract obstruction, infection, tumors

27
Q

What causes ascites in a baby & what is the outcome?

A

Nonimmune hydrops, always has poor prognosis

28
Q

What is the difference in appearance of pseudoascites and ascites?

A

Pseudo never outlines falciform ligament & is confined to anterior abdomen.
Ascites outlines falciform lig & umbilical vein

29
Q

What is choledochal cyst?

A

Dilation of CBD seen next to stomach & GB

30
Q

What can be associated with choledochal cyst?

A

intermittent biliary obstructioin & severe biliary cirrhosis
