What are the three tests for an appendicitis
Rovsing’s test - push on LLQ which will cause pain in the LRQ
Psoas Sign - raises right leg against hand pressure
Obturator Sign - bend knee to 90* rotate knee in centre
What are some signs and symptoms of appendicitis
Fever Anorexia Nausea Vomiting Dilation of 6mm on CT = appendectomy
What is an ectopic pregnancy and what signs are there
The fertilized ovum implants outside the uterus,
Commonly in the Fallopian tube
Lower abdo pain
Surgery required, life threatening if left untreated
What is a AAA
Abdo/back pain
Pulsatile abdo mass
Hypotension
Aneurysm palpating is possible in very thin people and those with AAA>5cm
What is acute cholecystitis
Gall bladder inflammation caused as a complication of gallstones
RUQ pain
Passage of gallstones into the gall bladder neck or cystic duct = inflammation or mucosa
Impacted gallstones= bile trapped In gallbladder
Irritation
Pressure
What is peritonitis
Guarding
Rigidity
Rebound tenderness
Ceasing of peristalsis, distention and decreased bowel sounds
Any perforated viscous may release contents Bowel contents Urine Puss Blood
Follow sepsis protocol
What are the 4 types of bowel obstruction
Interssusception -where the intestine goes inside itself
Volvulus- where the stomach or intestine twists about on itself
Adhesion- where something adheres to the intestine
Herniation- where a bit of bowel pushes through a muscle
What is Pancreatitis
Sudden onset Nausea Vomiting Epigastric tenderness Fever Tachycardia
Hx gallstones + excessive alcohol intake
Or
Metabolic causes Prescription drugs Hereditory Autoimmune Tumors
Blood test= increased lipase + amylase
