Renal Colic
Severe flank pain, radiating to groin. Perform non-contrast helical or spiral CT.
Acute pancreatitis
Mid-epigastric pain which radiates to the back.
Cullen’s sign
Periumbilical brusing
Grey-Turner sign

Brusing over inguinal ligament
What level is checked for any pain with acute pain in epigastric region?
Serum amylase to rule out acute pancreatitis
Symptomatic diverticulitis
Fever, high WCC and LLQ pain
Rovsing’s sign
Pressing on the left side of the abdominal cavity elicits pain in the RLQ
Psoas sign
Indicates irritation to the iliopsoas group of hip flexors in the abdomen, and consequently indicates that the inflamed appendix is retrocaecal in orientation.
Obturator sign
Indicator of irritation to the obturator internus muscle. The patient lies on her/his back with the hip and knee both flexed at ninety degrees. Indicates appendicitis.
Symptoms/signs of bowel obstruction
Vomiting, distended and painful abdomen. Tinkling high pitched bowel signs
Cholecystitis associations
Fat, Forty, Female, Fertile, Fair
Severe abdominal pain that radiates to back
Think AAA if history etc is correct
Perforated bowel
Persistent tachycardia, fever and/or abdominal pain and tenderness
