What is ABA?
The science of behavior that focuses on studying the interaction between behavior and the environment.

What is behavior?
Anything that a person says or does that can be observed, measured, and has an impact on the environment.
ABA’s View of Behavior
Relationship between a persons behavior and the environment. Behavior is either functional or not and is changeable.
Characteristics of behavior
Specific, Observable, Measurable
Behavioral Contingency (ABC’s of behavior)
Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence
What is an Antecedent?
Stimuli that comes immediately before behavior and makes the behavior more likely to occur in that moment.
What is Behavior (as in the ABC’s)?
The observable moment immediately after the antecedent.
What is a Consequence?
The action that comes immediately after the behavior and affects future likelihood of the behavior.
