Q

What defines the amount of water that may accumulate on an interior integral surface without being considered a failure in AAMA 502, 503?

A

There is no exception based on quantity of water. Failure is determined based on what part of the window leaks and where the water is discharged.

Q

Is water accumulation on a un-drained sill or meeting rail considered a failure according to AAMA 502?

A

No. As long as water does not pass beyond the innermost plane of the fenestration product, it is not defined as a failure by the standard.

Q

Per AAMA 502, water penetration is attributed in three ways, based on location, list and define them.

A

Fenestration product- Water entry beyond a plane parallel to the innermost edge of the product that indisputably originates from the product.
Perimeter Joint - Water entry that indisputably originates from the joint between the product and the surrounding wall/roof.
Surrounding Condition: Uncontrolled water that did not originate from either the product or the joint between the product and the wall/roof.
