A8 Forelimb 4 Flashcards
Describe the main arterial supply and venous drainage to the forelimb
Right thoracic limb:
Brachiocephalic trunk → right subclavian a. → right axillary a.
Left thoracic limb:
Left subclavian a. → left axillary a.
Cranial & caudal vena cava
Identify the main arteries and veins in the forelimb
Subclavian a. → axillary a. → brachial a. → median a.
Cephalic v. → accessory cephalic v. → median v.
Describe the brachial plexus
- Cervical spinal nerves ( C5, C6, C7 & C8)
- thoracic spinal nerves (T1, & T2)
- spinal nerves merge together to contribute to 7 peripheral nerves of forelimb & thoracic & pectoral nn.
Identify the nerves of the forelimb
- Supra scapular n. (C6-C7)
- subscapular n. (C6 - C7)
- axiIIary n. (C7 - C8)
- musculocutaneous n. (C7 - C8)
- radial n. (C7-T1)
- median n. (C8-T1)
- ulnar n. (C8-T1/2)
Describe the motor & sensory supply to the forelimb
Suprascapular n.
motor: supraspinatus & infraspinatus mm.
subscapular n.
motor: subscapularis m.
axiIIary n.
motor: shoulder flexors teres major, teres minor & deltoids m.
sensory: craniolateral brachium, proximal antebrachium
musculocutaneous n.
motor: elbow flexors biceps brachii, brachialis, coracobrachialis m.
sensory: medial antebrachium
radial n.
motor: extensors of elbow, carpus, digits & supinator m.
sensory: cranial & lateral antebrachium & dorsal manus
median n.
motor: flexor carpi radialis, SDF & DDF, pronator teres & quadratus mm.
sensory: palmer manus
ulnar n.
motor: flexor carpi ulnaris & deep digital flexor m.
sensory: caudal antebrachium, lateral digit V, palmer manus
