A
- provided in the community

- includes:
GPs

what is secondary care in the NHS?
A
- provided in a hospital setting
- inpatient (patient stays in hospital for treatment)
- outpatient (patient visits for an appointment or treatment but does not require a bed)

what is tertiary care in the NHS?
A
- specialist treatment, sometimes at a specialist centre but may be in a hospital
- includes areas such as:
neurosurgery
transplants
plastic surgery

what is commissioning of NHS services?
A
- commissioning is finding out at a certain level what services are needed within the population
- need to assess what it is going to cost
- once implemented, need to assess whether it is working or not working

- integrated care boards (the commissioning body)
- people that look at what services and funding are needed
