What was the church like at the end of Henry VII’s reign / the very start of Edward’s reign?

A

Although the church in England had been changed systemically by the Royal Supremacy, by 1547 there had been limited doctrinal change.
* Some bishops held protestant views - such as Nicholas Ridley, Bishop of London ; but in many areas religion had been scarcely touched.

Under Edward changes became firmly protestant.

Describe the transition from Somerset to Northumberland - Religious Policies.

A

Northumberland favoured increasingly radical religious reforms this was due to a number of factors :
* Edward VI’s influence on policy making
* Cramner was becoming more radical (as seen by the prayer book of 1552)
* More Radical senior clergy becoming more influential (e.g Ridley and Hooper)
* Reformers moving to England.

What was the impact on the Church’s wealth?

A

People were concerned that if they left money to the church it may be taken by the crown ; people became less inclined to leave money and so the churhc began slowly losing wealth as land was taken away from bishops and church property was seized.
