Biosecurity
Measures (in the form of protocol) to prevent the spread of disease and infection between people and animals
Decontamination
Freeing an object from contaminants (fomites)
Hazardous Waste
Needles/syringes, some medications, and samples (blood/urine/feces) that all have the potential to be infectious
Isolation Wards
Designated/separate area for patients with infectious disease (parvo/rabies) that has its own water and drainage
Microbes
Any living organism (bacteria/virus/fungus)
Microbial Resistance
When microbes become resistant to antimicrobial agents (ex. Antibiotics/chemical cleaning agents)
Barrier Precautions
Gloves, masks and protective eye wear should be worn when touching or handling bodily fluids and biological specimens
