Q

Hiw do conventional an it psychotics work

5

A

Reduce effects of dopamine
So reduce symptoms of schizo
They’re dopamine antagonists
Bind to D2 (dopamine) receptors but don’t stimulate them and block their action
Due to reduced dopamine system stimulation they reduce positive symptoms of schizo eg hallucinations and delusions

Q

What happens in ect

4 steps

A

Patient first made unconscious
