Anyone who stays away from home for at lest one night. It might be to stay with relatives, in a hotel, or on a business trip. NOT ALWAYS A HOLIDAY

When a tourist travels to another country
What is a domestic tourist?
When a tourist remains within their country of residence
What is the multiplier effect?
The impact of spending in a community, from tourists for example, which i re-spent and recycled in that community. E.g. - a tourist spends money at local shops and the money is re-used through that country/area
What are the factors that have contributed to the rapid growth of tourism?
ECONOMIC - disposable income, more money to spend
SOCIAL - number of working hours, consumer culture
TRANSPORT - journey times reduced, lost cost airlines
COMMUNICATION - mass media, internet (more aware)
easily accessible information
POLITICAL - relaxing border controls, EU tourist travel freely
What is a package holiday?
Consists of transport and accommodation advertised and sold together (by a tour operator). Put together for both domestic and overseas destinations.
what is mass tourism?
A form of tourism in which large multinational companies shape developments according to global demand.
What is alternative tourism?
Unlike mass tourism, it’s about individuals and small groups.
What are some human attractions?
Cultural heritage, Accommodation, Local cuisine
