Q

Describe the anatomical position and why it is important.

A

The anatomical position is needed to ensure a universal language is being used among health care providers. This position provides a baseline reference to the body and its appendage’s position. The individual is standing erect with feet flat on the floor and toes pointing forward or slightly pointed outward. The knees are straight and pointing forward. The hips, torso, and head (including eyes) are pointing forward. Arms are to the side with palms facing forward (supinated); elbows are fully extended and wrists/hands in line with the forearms.

Q

Describe the matrix of connective tissue.

A

The matrix is open compared to other types of tissues; cells are widely spaced separated by fibers and ground substance. This type of matrix helps absorb compressive forces.
