A & P 1 Flashcards
Organelles in the cytoplasm that take in nutrients break them down and create energy molecules for the cell
Mitochondria
Found in the cytoplasm are the protein builders of the cell
Ribosomes
Made of protein and a single molecule of DNA
Chromosomes
Two new cells are produced that are identical to each other and to the parent cell
Mitosis
A different kind of cell division that doesn’t create cells identical to the parent cell
Meiosis
Cell turn over- 1st stage, cell grows and develops
Prophase
Cell turn over- 2nd stage, DNA is replicated
Metaphase
Cell turn over- 3rd stage, cell grows and produces proteins
Anaphase
Cell turn over- 4th stage, DNA divided, mitosis occurs
Telophase
Chemical process in which cells receive nutrients for cell growth and reproduction
Metabolism
Process of building up larger molecules from smaller ones
Anabolism
Process of breaking down larger molecules into smaller ones
Catabolism
Covers and protects body surfaces and internal organs
Epithelial tissue
Supports, protects and holds the body together, gives contour to the body
Connective tissue
Coordinates body functions in addition to carrying messages to and from the brain and spinal cord (CNS)
Nerve tissue
