A Chemical Change Produces New Substances Flashcards
What happens in a chemical change?
In a chemical change, a new substance or chemical is formed.
Can atoms be separated to form new substances in some chemical changes?
Yes.
Can atoms and molecules be joined together to form new molecules?
Yes.
Are chemical changes reversible?
No
Are physical changes reversible?
Yes
When a chemical change occurs, what happens?
A new, different substance is crafted, which contains of different properties.
What are physical and chemical changes dependant on?
The substances, how you combined them and he temperature.
Give an example of a chemical change.
When a meat is cooked, the proteins are cooked as they have interacted with thermal energy hence altering the arrangement of atoms within the meat.
Give an example of a physical change.
When chocolate is melted. It is still chocolate and is only a different state of matter. None of the atoms, molecules or compounds have been re-arranged or altered.
Provide some signs of a chemical change.
A precipitate has formed, a gas, smell or bubbles have been formed and the colour has changed.
What reaction occurs when you mix cake ingredients together and bake it?
Endothermic chemical reaction.
