Q

Describe the transition from prestarter to starter?

A

The transition from one diet to another must be gradual because we want the microflora to adopt, usually made over a 5 day period!

  • Day 1:80% prestarter 20% starter
  • Day 2:60% prestarter 40% starter
  • Day 3: 40% prestarter 60% starter
  • Day 4 : 20% prestarter 20% starter
  • Day 5: 100% new diet

Q

2 benefits of addition of Lysine in the diet of pigs?

A

→ Lysine is important additive to animal feed because it is limiting amino acid when optimizing the growth of certain animals such as pigs and chickens for the production of meat

→Lysine supplementation allows for use of lower cost plant protein( Maize for instance rather than soy)

while maintaing high growth rates and limiting the pollution from nitrogen excretion

Q

describe the different types of weaning?(age and solid feed consumptio%)

A

→Traditional sysyem:

  • age at weaning(weeks) 6 or more.
  • Solid feed consumption % 70-80

→ Recent system usual

  • age at weaning(weeks) 4-5 (28 days)
  • Solid feed consumption % 50-60

→ segregated early weaning :
