What is Teamworking?
The combined efforts, or the actions of a group, to achieve a common goal.
What are the various project roles within a project team?
Project Manager – responsible for design team coordination and project delivery
Architect – responsible for architectural design, coordinating design of other engineer and meeting legislation.
Quantity Surveyor – responsible for costing a building at all it stages; cost planning, procurement and tendering, valuations, variations etc.
Structural Engineer – responsible for structural design
MEP Services Engineer – responsible Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health design.
Other consultants – AV/IT, Principal Designer, Landscaping, Specialist Consultants i.e. Acoustics, BR, Planning
Contract Administrator – EA/CA responsible for administering contract
Contractor responsible for carry out the construction works
Sub-Contractor - responsible for delivering specific works package under main-contractor.
Contractor Design Team - responsible for design under main contractor.
Why is teamworking important in construction?
Construction projects reliant on the input of different experts throughout the different stages in order to collectively work towards successful project delivery.
What are the principles of team working?
How do you create a good team working dynamic?

What do you mean by appointing the right team members?
Important to select team members who constructively with others, team work is about working collectively towards a common goal.
What makes a good team member?
Good communication skills Good listening skills Discussing ideas with others, Providing input on sector of expertise Respecting others and their ideas Sharing information with other team members
What are the advantages of successful team working?
Increased attitude and motivation of team members
Increased communication
Greater clarity expressing ideas in group discussion
Better understanding of roles within project team
Increased productivity

What are Project Execution Plans?
Defined project roles, responsibilities and procedures
Typically includes Project Description and Brief Team Roles and Responsibilities Overall Programme Change Control Procedures
Why are Meeting Agenda’s important?
An agenda is a meeting program designed to enable all important and relevant points to be dealt with in good order and good time.
Why are Actions from Meeting Minutes important?
Hold team members accountable for previous actions discussed and also provide written audit trails
What are Team Sharing Platforms?
Databases allowing team members to share information required for design development or contract administration.
Increase speed at which information can be shared
What are Key Performance Indicators?
Key Milestones for team members to works towards together.
What is Partnering?
Collaborative management approach encourages openness and trust between parties to a contract.
What is the Latham Report?
Refers to ‘partnering’ and includes the concept of teamwork between supplier and client, in a process of total continuous improvement.
What are the Latham Report Recommendations?
Government should become a best practice client.
NEC suite of contracts be adopted to improve a less adversarial approach.

Risk to be allocated to the party best able to handle it.
What needs to be done for effective meetings?
Invitations in advance (time to prepare)
Meeting Agendas (brief team and time allocation)
Ask Questions to confirm next steps/actions

Can you share an example of working as part of an effective team?
During Coronavirus I have maintained good team relations and procedures whilst working remotely.
If a member of your team was difficult or disruptive in a meeting how would you deal with it?
Analyse situation - understand the issue and impact
Address team member - inform of behavior, consider reason for disruption and request behavior change
No improvement, approach their manger and try and get resolved
Worst case - talk to client about replacing them
How would you go about recruiting team members?
Determine the required role
Determine the scope of works required
Ask internally for companies BTP have worked with
Then ask design team for any recommendations
Discuss project and request for fee proposal
How would you positively motivate your team members?
Give praise where due
Listen to individual and collective concerns
Provide opportunities to contribute to team
Provide additional support where necessary
