Q

Isotonic contractions

A

Muscle length changes, decreasing the angle at the joint. Moves the load. Tension remains relatively constant through the rest of the contractile period.

Q

Muscle tone

A

Relaxed muscles are always contracted, this is due to spinal reflexes that activate first one group of motor units and then another in response to activation of stretch receptors in muscles

Q

Eccentric contraction ( type of isotonic contraction)

A

Muscle generates force as it lengthens. Important for coordination and purposeful movement.

Q

Isometric contractions

A

Tension may build to muscles peak tension-producing capacity, muscle doesn’t shorten or lengthen.
Occurs when muscle attempts to move a load that is greater than the force (tension) the muscle is able to develop.
