Consistent with building a strong unifying culture and informal management network
Makes sense for firms pursuing either a global or transnational strategy
But, immigration policies of national governments may limit ability of firm to pursue this policy
Virtual staffing
Using tech to employ foreign nationals as virtual expatriates. But hard to build strong relationships.
Outsourcing
Process of company subcontracting a certain production function to a third party
Offshoring
Involves process of transferring organisation function to another country
Expat staffing reasons and issues
Reasons- Lack of quality host country nationals, maintenance of control of host country operations
Issues – Failure greater 30%, family problems, reverse culture shock- repatriation.
Success selection- self esteem, others orientation, perceptual ability, cultural toughness, global mindset. Provide training, development, culture language practical training.
