9 - Energy, Power , Resistance Flashcards
Diode
A component that allows current in one direction only.
Electromotive Force (emf)
Energy supplied per unit charge by a source.
Filament Lamp
A light bulb with a metal filament that heats up to produce light.
I-V Characteristics
Plots of current vs. voltage for different components.
Kilowatt-Hour
A unit of electrical energy commonly used to measure power consumption.
Light-Dependent Resistor (LDR)
A semiconductor whose resistance changes with light intensity.
Negative Temperature Coefficient Thermistor
A thermistor whose resistance decreases with temperature.
Ohm’s Law
The current through a conductor is proportional to the potential difference across it.
Potential Difference
The work done per coulomb of charge moved in a circuit, measured in volts.
Power
The rate at which energy is transferred in a circuit, measured in watts.
Resistance
A measure of how much a material resists the flow of current.
Resistivity
A material’s resistance per unit length and cross-sectional area, measured in ohm-meters.
Resistor
A device that has a fixed resistance and follows Ohm’s law.
Volt
The unit of potential difference.
