10 - Electrical Circuits Flashcards
Conservation of Energy
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred.
Internal Resistance
The resistance within a power source, causing energy dissipation.
Kirchhoff’s Second Law
The sum of the voltages in a closed loop equals zero.
Lost Volts
The voltage drop across the internal resistance of a source.
Parallel Circuit
Components connected in parallel have the same potential difference.
Potential Divider
A circuit arrangement that splits a voltage in proportion to resistances.
Resistors in Parallel
The total resistance is the inverse of the sum of inverses of individual resistances.
Resistors in Series
The total resistance is the sum of individual resistances.
Sensor Circuits
Circuits that react to changes in external conditions.
Series Circuit
Components connected end-to-end, sharing the same current.
Terminal PD
The potential difference across the terminals of a power source. It is equal to the source’s emf minus any voltage drop over the source’s internal resistance.
