Strangulated hernia ?
- Is an emergency that occurs when the blood supply of hernia’s contents is seriously impaired, which leads to ischaemia and necrosis.
Richter’s hernia ?
When only a portion of the circumference of the intestine is strangulated (no obstruction symptoms).
Mayld’s hernia (hernia-in-W) ?
when the strangulated loop lies within the abdomen.
Indirect inguinal hernia ?
Enters the inguinal canal through the deep inguinal ring, travels down the canal on the outer side of spermatic cord, leaves via superficial inguinal ring
Direct inguinal hernia ?
The sac passes through the defect of the transversalis fascia in the posterior wall of inguinal canal, medially to inferior epigastric vessels, the sac lies behind the spermatic cord.
Inguinal hernias:
- 60% of abdominal hernias.
- Inguinal hernias in babies are the result of a persistent processus vaginalis, in adults they are acquired.
What is the most common hernia of all, especially in the young?
