9/28: Radiology Flashcards
How many radiographs are in a full mouth survey?
20
How many PAs in a full mouth survey?
16
How many bitewings in a full mouth survey?
4
What does PA stand for?
Periapical
What is a PA radiograph?
image that captures the outline of the entire crown and the entire root anatomy >2.0mm of alveolar
Where is the receptor placed during a PA?
-parallel to B and Li planes of lateral incisor
-receptors parallels long axis of lateral incisor
-incisor is within middle two 1/4s of mesiodistal width
-horizontal angle directed through mesial contact of lateral incisor
What do bitewing radiographs show?
-interproximal contact areas without overlapping (“open contacts”)
-detect interproximal caries
-crestal alveolar bone levels
What is the brief description of an incisive foramen?
round/oval
Is the incisive foramen radiolucent/radiopaque?
Radiolucent
What is the periapical of a incisive foramen?
Central incisor
Is the incisive foramen bilateral or unilateral?
Unilateral
What is the alternate name of a incisive foramen?
Nasopalatine foramen
Incisive foramen
What is a brief description of a lingual foramen?
Pinpoint duct
Is a lingual foramen radiolucent/radiopaque?
Radiolucent
What is the periapical of a lingual foramen?
Central incisor
Is the lingual foramen bilateral or unilateral?
BIlateral
Lingual foramen
What is Radiolucent?
Materials are those that are not dense enough to keep x-rays from shining through them and so look “clear” on an x-ray
What is opaque?
Materials that are dense enough to resist x-rays shining through them, and so can be seen on an x-ray
What is the ADA’s standard for viewing and interpreting intraoral radiographic images?
A. Labial mounting
B. Lingual mounting
C. Patient orientation
D. External orientation
A. Labial mounting
Structures that appear radiopaque on radiographic images _______________.
A. allow passage of x-rays
B. absorb x-ray beam energy
C. represent openings in bone
D. appear as dark or black areas
B. absorb x-ray beam energy
What does a periapical x-ray show?
your entire tooth, from the crown to the root tip
What type of x-ray is interpxoimal?
Bite wing - we are looking for decay
