What changes is South Asia’s climate facing?
A) melting glaciers add to the monsoons -> increasing floods
B) dry spells btw the monsoons have gotten longer, rain that penetrated the soil less common
Green Revolution
Starting 1960s the green revolution -> new crops ( developed in the US esp to combat hunger in the world) developed HYCV (high yealing crop varieties) crops (made in US labs mostly)
-> increase in available food
in GS BUT need more
input in water, pesticides,
chemicals etc
-> Bhopal was one company
that produced those
chemicals
-> increase in food availability
in beginning
-> nutrition chemicals for soil
BUT after a certain time the soil is non fertile anymore after that
The sea levels are rising and…
… the landmass is sinking due to grained ground water (Subsidence)
