89 Al Fajr-The Dawn

Question 1

وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ

Answer 1

By the dawn

Question 2

وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٍ

Answer 2

And [by] ten nights

Question 3

وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ

Answer 3

And [by] the even [number] and the odd

Question 4

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ

Answer 4

And [by] the night when it passes,

Question 5

هَلۡ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجۡرٍ

Answer 5

Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?

Question 6

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

Answer 6

Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ‘Aad -

Question 7

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلۡعِمَادِ

Answer 7

[With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,

Question 8

ٱلَّتِى لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِى ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ

Answer 8

The likes of whom had never been created in the land?

Question 9

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُواْ ٱلصَّخۡرَ بِٱلۡوَادِ

Answer 9

And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley?

Question 10

وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِى ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ

Answer 10

And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? -

Question 11

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوۡاْ فِى ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ

Answer 11

[All of] whom oppressed within the lands

Question 12

فَأَكۡثَرُواْ فِيهَا ٱلۡفَسَادَ

Answer 12

And increased therein the corruption.

Question 13

فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ

Answer 13

So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.

Question 14

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ

Answer 14

Indeed, your Lord is in observation.

Question 15

فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ

Answer 15

And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, “My Lord has honored me.”

Question 16

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَٰنَنِ

Answer 16

But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, “My Lord has humiliated me.”

Question 17

كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ

Answer 17

No! But you do not honor the orphan

Question 18

وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ

Answer 18

And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.

Question 19

وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلًا لَّمًّا

Answer 19

And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,

Question 20

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا

Answer 20

And you love wealth with immense love.

Question 21

كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا

Answer 21

No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed -

Question 22

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا

Answer 22

And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,

Question 23

وَجِاْىٓءَ يَوۡمَئِذٍۢ بِجَهَنَّمَۚ يَوۡمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ

Answer 23

And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance?

Question 24

يَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِى قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِى

Answer 24

He will say, “Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life.”

Question 25

فَيَوۡمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ

Answer 25

So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,

Question 26

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ

Answer 26

And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].

Question 27

يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَئِنَّةُ

Answer 27

[To the righteous it will be said], “O reassured soul,

Question 28

ٱرۡجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرۡضِيَّةً

Answer 28

Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],

Question 29

فَٱدۡخُلِى فِى عِبَٰدِى

Answer 29

And enter among My [righteous] servants

Question 30

وَٱدۡخُلِى جَنَّتِى

Answer 30

And enter My Paradise.”

Question 31

Al Fajr 30 ayaat, 4 sections

Answer 31

1. Swearing by the nights
2. Aad, Thamud, Pharoah
3. Lover of wealth
4. DOJ
